Biography
Giorgos Demetriou is a European policy, research and innovation executive with more than twenty years of experience across defence and security, cybersecurity, circular economy, European energy and technology governance. He is Associate Dean of Research and Innovation at École des Ponts Business School. He founded and directed the Circular Economy Research Center at the School, securing more than €20 million in funding. His research connects circular business models, resource efficiency, industrial sustainability, digital transformation and resilient supply chains.
Until July 2025, he led the Research, Technology and Innovation Coordination team at the European Defence Agency. During his tenure from 2014 to July 2025, he led strategic planning and multinational coordination for defence research and technology. He co-led development of the Overarching Strategic Research Agenda, supported policy on emerging and disruptive technologies, and contributed to alignment between research priorities, EU programmes and defence industrial requirements.
From 2025 to 2026, he advised the Ministry of Defence of Cyprus on its contribution to Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union. His portfolio covered the European defence industrial and technological base, defence research and innovation, resilience, sustainability, energy and maritime security, and European strategic autonomy. Giorgos holds a Doctor of Business Administration, an MA in International Politics, an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in economics. He has completed executive education at Harvard University and MIT and holds CRMA and CRISC professional certifications.
